Victorian Alps

The Victorian Alps represent those climbs in the vicinity of the beautiful country town of Bright. An easy 3.5 hour drive from Melbourne, this region serves the cyclist most of the year round with challenging climbs and the most scenic locations. Simply explore and enjoy....

Also enjoy the 305km Great Alpine Road, the 165km Omeo Highway (some parts unsealed) and several out and back roads which can serve as recovery rides.

Main Highways

Name Description
Great Alpine Road 305 km of scenic views from Wangaratta to Bairnsdale over the top at Mount Hotham
Omeo Hwy Connecting the Murray Valley Hwy near Tallangatta and the town of Omeo, 165 km to the south. A big climb half way along, but mostly unselaed between Mitta Mitta and Glen Valley.

 

Out and Back Roads

Name Description
Dederang-Wodonga From Dedarang on the Kiewa Valley Hwy to the Vic-NSW border on the Murray River just through Wodonga
Mountain Creek Road Short, scenic and generally flat. Starting on the Kiewa Valley Hwy between Tawonga and Tawonga South goes east to the end of the bitumen at the Mountain Creek Picnic Ground.
Dartmouth Dam Just north of Mitta Mitta on the Omeo Hwy. Finishing with a steep but short climb up the Dartmouth Dam.
Yabba Road A short, scenic road you can take at the start of the Omeo Hwy on the Murray Valley Hwy near Tallangatta.
Omeo Valley Rd Just north of Omeo at the end of the Omeo Hwy Another choice if you want to stretch your legs on a gradual climb.
Myrtleford-Dandongadale Part of the Myrtleford-Whitfield Rd, but is unsealed after Dandongadale. A flat and scenic 33km out and back route.
